Parachute Testing, Irving Air Chute Co. Buffalo, NY 1937 |
Margaret Bourke-White (1904-1971) was an American and documentary photographer. She was the first female war journalist and her photograph of the Fort Peck Dam appeared on the cover of the first Life magazine. Bourke-White is best known for her photographs of Soviet industry and the Great Depression. She also captured photographs depicting World War II and violence in India and Pakistan. This photo caught my eye for its contrast in value, emphasizing the shape of the parachute and the shadow it casts. Moreover, the ropes lead my eyes from the people to the parachute.
