Project 3: Color and Grids
For project three, I focused on color and grids, and how they are used to set the mood. I learned about color harmonies- warm and cool colors, monochromes, and color complements (two colors on opposite sides of the color wheel). I also learned how to create grids, which was challenging and fun. I made simple grids as well as more abstract complex grids. These are the final grids and photos.
Color Harmonies:
Cool Colors:
For the grid above, I took multiple photos of different subjects and made a preset so they all have the same color.
I edited each of the wave photographs differently with cool colors in mind. I like all the edits, but the last one is my favorite because of its contrast between the dark and light colors.
I took the photograph above at Oneonta Falls, Oregon. I added a graduated filter to lower the exposure of the rocks, and brought up the highlights to draw attention to the natural light coming through the crevasse. I made this image into a grid and rotated some of the images, which almost makes this grid look like a painting.
Warm Colors:
I took a picture of city lights at night and moved the camera to create a streak effect. I made color of the lights different warm colors, and then made them into a grid. I like it's abstract qualities, pattern, and contrast. The final result is the photo above.
Color Complements:
For the grid above, I took multiple shots of this flower against a green background. I also included a fish eye lens in some of the images. I like the vibrant colors and different angles in this grid.
The blue ocean against the orange sky complements each other very well. I added a graduated filter to the ocean to create a darker blue that fades into a lighter blue.
Monochrome:
For the grid above, I took multiple photos of a fountain and applied a preset to them so they look lowly saturated, but high in contrast. I rotated the images to create an abstract grid.
